Spicy Popped Sorghum

By: Esther Vasa

Ingredients:
Sorghum or Jowar – ½ cup
Olive Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Cayenne Pepper or Red Pepper flakes – 1/4th tsp
Crushed Garlic – 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp

Preparation:

Heat up a pan (with a tight-fitting lid) and add a tablespoon of olive oil. Let it heat up; then add the sorghum or jowar (or Pearl Millet). Cover the lid; make sure the lid has a little vent. Set the heat on low and keep shaking the pan until all the sorghum grains pop. I usually use a pan with a glass lid so I can see clearly. Set the popped sorghum aside.

In another pan, heat up the other tablespoon of olive oil and add the turmeric powder. Then, add the pepper and garlic. Keep stirring this for a few seconds or a minute. Then add the salt. Finally, add the popped sorghum and mix well until each popped sorghum grain is coated with a bit of spice mix. This nice snack goes well with your evening tea. Enjoy!
