Cayenne pepper: is one of the 5 spices for optimum health. Cayenne works wonders in the body - heart, digestive tract and circulatory system. It is high in Calcium and Potassium. It also has A, C and B vitamins. There are reports of it helping to slow/stop heart attacks, stop bleeding, lowering cholesterol and triglycerides, ease headches as well as calm an upset stomach. It also relieves pain by depleting substance P (a pain-transmitting chemical produced by the nerves) and prompting the release of feel-good endorphins.
Ginger: has natural antibiotic as well as anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger can help ease colds as well as an upset stomach quickly. Using ginger generously in cooking helps fight fat absorption and lowers cholesterol levels!
Turmeric or Curcumin: Aids in controlling inflammation of arthritis and heart disease. This spice preceded aspirin as a pain reliever!
Cinnamon: Helps control cholesterol and triglycerides and lowers blood sugar. This spice also can help with upset stomach.
Garlic: Also has natural antibiotic properties and anti-viral, lowers blood pressure, and total cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Some dispute garlic and say that Nutmeg is the 5th spice for better health.
Nutmeg: aids drowsiness for better sleep, calms anxiety, improves circulation, and eases indigestion and nausea.
